What is anemia and what causes an anemic condition

Anemia is a condition where the count of the body’s red blood cells drops down to low levels causing alarming symptoms. Hemoglobin present in the red blood cells is responsible for carrying oxygen to various parts of the body and the lack of this, which the characteristic of an anemic condition, cause the different body parts to lose their efficient functional abilities due to less oxygen.

Anemia can be a hereditary cause, may be caused by excessive blood loss through bleeding, improper nutrition, etc. Other medical issues and disorders cause loss of red blood cells resulting in anemic conditions. Women during pregnancy also sometimes suffer being anemic, but that is generally taken to be a less chronic situation. However, being anemic is not always a feasible situation, and being consistently under the effect of anemia might cause long term health issues, including chronic health problems.

There are different kinds of anemia depending upon different conditions and deficiencies in the body.

Anemia due to chronic health conditions: There are some diseases which interfere and slow down the process of the production of red blood cells and hemoglobin. In such diseases and blood disorders like arthritis, bone marrow disease and other inflammatory diseases, the hemoglobin production is effected in the bone marrow.

Anemia due to organ dysfunction: In some cases where the organs are effected like kidneys, gall bladder, liver etc, the body becomes less efficient in producing healthy red blood cells, often resulting in anemia.

Anemia due to Iron deficiency: Hemoglobin carries oxygen for the functions of the body and is made in the bone marrow of bones in the body. The element which constitutes mainly in the preparation of hemoglobin is Iron. The deficiency of iron in the body results in lower amounts of hemoglobin preparation thus resulting in Anemia.

Anemia due to vitamin deficiency: There are vitamin which constitute in the production of healthy red blood cells such as B12 and folate and the deficiency of these cause deterioration in the levels of hemoglobin thus resulting in anemia.

Some very common and obvious symptoms of anemia include:

--Paler skin color

-- Irregular heart beat/pulse rate

-- Tiredness/ fatigue

-- Breathlessness, etc.
